Appearance: colorless orthorhombic crystal or white amorphous powder; relative density: 4.50 (15℃); melting point: 1580℃. Mohs hardness: 3.0; refractive index: 1.64; solubility (20℃): 0.00024g/100g water. It is able to absorb harmful rays, almost insoluble in water, ethanol, organic solvent, acid and alkali, soluble in boiling hot concentrated sulfuric acid. It is a common nontoxic barium salt and can be reduced to barium sulfide and carbon dioxide by carbon at 600℃.

Precipitated barium sulfate is an environmental and functional material with strong chemical inertia, good stability, acid and alkali resistance, moderate hardness, high whiteness, high gloss, the capability of absorbing harmful x, γ ray, etc. So it is widely used in all kinds of paint (water, oil and powder paint, automobile paint, wood paint, exterior wall paint, anticorrosive paint, high gloss paint, electronic ink, printing ink, etc), modified plastics (PA, PBT, PET, PC, POM, PMMA, PP, ABS, PE, PS, automotive plastic, electrical appliance housings, film, plastic constructional material, etc), filler for rubber, elastomer, paper, cosmetics and so on. It can also be used as cocktail (called barium meal) in intestines and stomach fluoroscopy, cathode expansion rod for storage battery, glaze material of ceramics and enamel, surface coating agent for photoprint paper and art paper, sizing agent in the textile industry, fining agent for glass products to defoam and add gloss. This barium sulfate can be used as protective wall material to prevent radiation, which is also used in nuclear facilities, atomic energy plant, X-ray laboratory and other places for its good shielding effect. Besides, it has the function of X-ray developing and can be used for medical developing fiber and children's toys. When used in drainage tube, voice box and audio, it can effectively isolate noise. It is also used in pharmaceutical chemical synthesis, perfume and pigments industry.

High whiteness
Precipitated barium sulfate has superhigh whiteness, higher than 99.5% of L value, bluish color, about negative 0.20 b value, so it has the characteristics of high purity, good weather resistance, acid and alkali resistance, water resistance and so on. It maintains color neutral and ensures color stability without affecting the color of downstream products.
Good dispersity
Precipitated barium sulfate has good dispersity after special surface treatment. The scraper fineness can reach below 5 µ m, so coatings modified by precipitated barium sulfate have high gloss and thixotropy. At the same time it can help pigment dispersion, reduce the amount of pigment, shorten grinding time and save cost.
Narrow particle size distribution
Precipitated barium sulfate has narrow particle size distribution and strong particle size controllability, so it has low oil absorption, good gloss and can effectively reduce VOC content. At the same time, it can be prepared into thinly coated products with better processing stability. Besides, it can reduce cost and protect environment.
