Barium sulfate has a performance of absorbing X-ray. Barium sulfate cement mortar has larger bulk density and can prevent X-ray. Barite, which is used in ray-shielding mortar and concrete, should contain more than 80% of barium sulfate. Barium cement, mortar and concrete made of barite, are used to shield nuclear reactor and build hospital X-ray shielding construction instead of metal tinplate. It is the prefered high strength ray shielding material for X-ray room, CT room, and industrial radiography protection, nuclear medicine, nuclear industry and so on.
