The reporter learns that the City Bureau of geological exploration 205 in Dazu country Xinglong mine makes a prospecting breakthrough, finding the largest strontium ore deposit in Asia. It is proved that the resources is expected to more than 20 million tons and the economic value is about 2billion yuan.

    In 2011, the Municipal Land and Housing Authority had already activated strontium ore prospecting work in Dazu and Tongliang area. Last year, geological team 205 made a big breakthrough in package exploration of strontium ore depth of Xinglong in Dazu country. At present, the team has completed the first phase of the core deposit exploration, with a total of 19 drillings and about 15 million tons resources, “Mines can be seen in every drillings, the thickness of ore body is big and it has a good quality”. The head of the geological team introduces that the mineral deposit has an average grade of 50 percent, more than 30 percent is for rich core with a quite high grade. The second phase of exploration is about to drill 15 drillings, and it is proved that resources of the two phases is expected to more than 20 million tons, which leads the strontium ore resources of the city increasing to 25 million tons.

    In addition, yesterday, the head of the geological team 205 revealed that the city of low grade strontium ore mineral smelting also made a major breakthrough. "Some strontium ore mines only exploit the rich ore with the grade in more than 50 percent, so the wasting of resources is severe, which affects the sustainable development of the strontium mining industry." The head said that the main reason of wasting is that the original ore grade in more than 60 percent could get the favour of the sellers, but the original ore grade in less than 50 percent is difficult to sell. It also means that there are almost more than 1000 tons of strontium ore with low grade are abandoned.The head says that low grade strontium ore mineral smelting aims to make "sleeping" low grade strontium ore "reborn”. After purification and mineral intergrowth, on the average, every 10000 tons of strontium ore grade in 30 percent can change into 4000 tons of strontium ore in 80 percent of the high grade."
